PFU Students' Life presents:
· our friends from Mississippi visiting Sochi, May 19-25, 2004·

Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (Sochi's branch) hosted a group of American students and faculty from Hinds Community College, MS, USA

At the meeting with the university faculty and students. American visit was widely covered by several local TV channels, radios and newspapers.

"Tree of Friendship" tour. It is famous for graftings made by people from than 160 countries...
... one of the graftings was made by President of Hinds Community College, Dr. Muse, Mr. Pickett, and Professor of History, Mr. Fatherree in 1999. Looking back over my shoulder I can see a wonderful history of friendship between our educational institutions. Thank you Dr. Muse for your support and encouragement!
This is the most unusual faculty meeting I've ever witnessed. Can you imagine that the discussions between Americans and Russians were translated by British? I appreciate Susanna and Oliver's time shared with us. Without you we would've had trouble understading each other! :-) And I'd like to thank British for their wonderful language that unites peoples all over the world (once you've learnt it)
Americans exposed to Russian culture. Brian seems to enjoy our traditional folk singing though he doesn't understand a word.
Matt is having a cup of hot black tea which is a must in Russia. I'd compare it's popularity to a glass of Coke with lots of ice in Mississippi. If I had to choose, I'd opt for our hot tea as it's 100% natural and REALLY helps you quench your thirst.
Student's meetings have always been a big hit. Formal and informal... especially informal. :-)

Caucasus... the final frontier... our American friends boldly went where no American educators (in such numbers) have ever gone before... Excuse me. Where was I? Ah, yes! When you are tired of our warm and azure sea, you can take an hour drive to Caucasus mountains. There you will find an exquisite tourist retreat - a small village called Krasnaya Polyana. We took a chair lift to the top (2734 yards above the sea level) where both students and faculty snowballed happily like kids. The most desperate one (Martha Hill) even dared to return back flying a parasail with a Russian instructor Yuri. Before a take off Mrs. Hill was nervous and we all tried to cheer her up. Mr. Michael Oliver kindly asked her permission to move from his cubicle to her office if (God forbid) something happens to her.

It's a "dog eat dog" world! :-)

Jerrel has been the most popular student all the time. People took pictures with him, students surrounded him to ask questions and simply touch this strange looking American.
Another great thing to do is to take a tour on a comfortable yaght and enjoy the panorama of Sochi from the sea.
Having visited Hinds CC I understood that hospitality is a destinctive feature of Mississippi people as well as people of Sochi. We ARE pretty much the same. We ARE friends who want to share the warmth of our hearts. It's been a pleasure serving our dear guests because I just tried to repay their kindness extended to me in Raymond. Despite of the limited time our students and faculty got very close to them, and it was very hard to let them finally go at the airport. We didn't say "good-bye" though. We said, "See you soon!"
